Our Purpose
Exploring the science
behind suicide risk
We fund research into the biological factors that can increase suicide risk—how brain chemistry, genetics, inflammation, and stress systems interact—and how these markers might be identified earlier in individuals. By supporting science that looks beneath surface symptoms, we aim to move treatment from reactive crisis response to proactive, preventative care that intervenes before despair becomes dangerous.
Learn more about this research
From research to
real-world impact
Too often, scientific insight takes years to reach the people who need it most. Beyond Assumption works as a bridge between research and real-world mental health care, translating evidence into practice. We focus on bringing rigorous science closer to clinicians, services, and communities, so treatment can be more precise, more effective, and grounded in how the mind and body actually work—not outdated assumptions or guesswork.
Changing the conversation
around suicide
Suicide is often framed as a personal choice or moral failing, and that narrative causes harm. Beyond Assumption challenges stigma through open, honest conversation rooted in science. By shifting the focus from blame to understanding, we aim to change how society talks about suicide—recognising it as the outcome of complex, treatable conditions, and replacing silence and judgement with knowledge, compassion, and responsibility.
